One of the most horrific beatings in UFC and MMA history. That head shake at the end was haunting, Tony must have been close to going into a coma by that stage. That shit is not normal.
Yeah. I really don’t see this as a “great” fight. It’s a great performance from Justin certainly but it’s not a “war” or some classic bout-it’s a savage beatdown that’s honestly hard to watch starting around the midpoint.
@@bfunderb5899 It was somewhat of a war up until the midpoint of the fight, where it then became a beatdown. A lot of people find it hard to watch, but in all honesty I don't because Gaethje's performance is so mesmerizing especially when you take into account how regarded Tony was before this fight.

This fight buried Tony's career, after that night his body and his brain were no longer sincronized, he suffer a lot of brain damage and nothing worked the same again. This is by far the saddest fight in UFC history, just painful
You know what though, utmost respect to Tony Ferguson for the brutal punishment he took. For ordinary people like me and others, we'd a been lying in the grave.

He just got exposed by a better fighter The reality is Tony always had these technical flaws, look at all his fights he ALWAYS fights with his chin in the air and throws arm punches Before the Justin Gaethje fight, when was the last time Tony beat a TOP 5 Lightweight? It was RDA in 2016! In fact, the only other opportunity Tony had to fight a TOP 5 Lightweight before Justin was against Michael Johnson when Khabib pulled out and guess what, he turned it down because he knew MJ would tap that @$$ again (he lost to MJ Already). He didn't get "old" he just got exposed by the TOP lightweights
Prime Tony ended after that infamous knee injury, but he was still good enough to compete a fairly high level which included this fight. Unfortunately, Justin put on such a horrific beating against Tony it aged him like 10 years. Factor that where Tony didn't take nearly enough time off after this, and you get a washed, old man Tony 😭

Not only that but Justin arguably is the hardest puncher of the division too. Now when you take away his biggest weapon he has nothing to fall back on

One thing that’s consistent with Justin is that every person that fights him says he hits the hardest.
I firmly believe that had he knocked Gaethje out with that uppercut he would still be the same fighter we all knew. The beat down he recieved after that is what changed this man... no doubt

Gaethje has one of the best cardio's in the game. This fight was where he really came out and showed that he can throw punches with all his might for 25 minutes straight and not slow down for a second.

One of those rare fights where it goes from being a blast to being almost too hard to watch. Can't imagine the repercussions this fight had for Tony, it's a cliché but those punches really must have taken quite a few years off his life. Unbelievable punishment.

This fight was a heartbraker because it was supposed to be Tony vs. Khabib but fate interfered for the 5th time in the form of Covid. Tony didn't need to accept this fight. It was the first fight since Covid began. It proved the UFC could maintain through covid. Tony lost a 12 fight win streak. Having no audience at a title fight was a huge wild card. Tony deserves respect for doing this and I wish Covid never happened.

Honestly. It would have been so much better for him if he went against khabib. Don't get me wrong. He would have been mauled. But khabib would have been much gentler than this absolute torture He took. He would have taken him down, beat him a bit, then submitted him. It wouldn't have been anywhere near this bad. The fact that I saw the fight a few minutes after the live broadcast and that this fight was one of the first to be without an audience due to the pandemic, but with this unusually loud and brutal background noise, leaves me with this battle , where you secretly, in the end, only hoped for salvation for tony with every hit, strongly remembered 😶

Minutes before the fight was about to end, we could see that Justin didn't want to do it anymore, starting from 25:15, then 26:07, 27:10, he could go crazy there. He knew Tony could get serious damage if he continued, but the referee didn't do anything, and tony couldn't surrender as well.
I shed a tear after my 10th or so rewatch. That was brutal af

My hardest-to-watch fight yet in this sport.. I loved Ferguson as a fan of the game, but the beating took out a lot in him forever..
Tony is by far the toughest guy in the history of the UFC. That beating that Justin laid on him, was just incredible. He was smashed hard, four out of five rounds. Much respect for Tony's heart! And great job Justin in his prime!

This is the fight where I think Justin's outlook on the sport changed. He clearly respects Tony a lot in the build up to and the bit of media after the fight. I think he might be coming from a point of view of wanting to put on a great show for the fans, but also recognizing that might come at the cost of his or his opponent's life. After this fight, he had a little message for Tony where he just briefly says he hopes Tony gets better soon and I'm sure Justin has been watching Tony's fights since then the same as the rest of us. Justin was already hinting at retirement before his last fight, I think if he had become champion (not interim) he would have retired already.

For a fight that really wasnt very competitive, this fight is so captivating.
The buzzer really saved Gaethje this match is a tragedy. Considering that Tony never really recovered. If there were 30 seconds more in that round sure Tony would have still crossed the sea.

Давно известно, что тони много пропускает и нормальному ударнику не составит проблем победить Тони в стойке. Все равно что,если бы геджи вышел против хабиба на коротком уведомлении. Ему бы не хватило времени подготовиться к борьбе хабиба и бой бы выглядел как барбоза - хабиб

The right uppercut of Tony, at the end of the second round, was (right after the uppercut from Francis Ngannou vs Alistair Overeemone) one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. Perfectly timed. Justin telegraphed his uppercut and he was waiting for that, he saw the opening and BANG! Straight through the middle. If it would not have been the end of the round, that could had been it for Justin, although he was the better fighter that evening.
Been watching ufc for over 20 years and this is one of my favorite fights
